Astrology of
Wellness
Gemini:
From one to many.
by Ted PanDeva Zagar
Note: The author uses Sol and Luna instead
of generic terms like "sun" and "moon" when referring to the
two most important spheres in our solar system. Folk remedies, herbs, foods,
micronutrients, and other substances and therapies are included as information
and not as replacements for the diagnoses, advice, and treatments provided by
competent wellness professionals.
GEMINI
Spring's astrological trilogy concludes with Gemini (May 21-June 20). The
12-step evolutionary process assigns the spark of becoming to Aries, the settling into form to Taurus, and the process of cellular division to the
sign aptly symbolized by Twins.
Intellectual and eager to learn, diverse in interests, and ready to travel at a moment's notice, the child of Gemini is
associated with Mercury, Sol's nearest planetary neighbor. With a year only 88 Earth days in length, this small but speedy orb was given winged helmet
and sandals by the ancients who personified it as the "messenger of the
gods".
An air sign, Gemini governs the mind and the ideas born therein. Weaving
together strings of related thoughts, the Twin and its Sagittarian counterpart (November
22-December 21) are the masters of ideological, philosophical, and ethical systems. It is the Gemini's penchant for learning which makes him
or her so suited for teaching.
The third astrological sign, Gemini, rules our siblings, whose genetic maps most
nearly approximate our own; even our parents and offspring don't come as close to us, biologically speaking. It is the Geminian function of splitting
the Taurean cell which initiates the point-counterpoint relationship. Where there was one, now there are two. Gemini revels in social exchanges,
especially in the intellectual sphere. Count on the Twin to network the best ideas that bubble up in large group situations. Appropriately, this sign has
been given rulership over all manner of communication, transportation, and education.
Anatomically and physiologically, Gemini governs the mind, lungs, nervous
system, hands, arms, shoulders, and facial area. Aside from speech, it is through the face and hands that we largely convey our thoughts. The more
fresh, raw fruits and vegetables we eat, the more our face will retain its youthful appearance. St. John's wort herbal tea calms a restless mind, while
essential oils of sage, sandalwood, and eucalyptus can decongest the lungs.
Because thiamin (vitamin B1) is essential for maintaining wellness in the
lungs, foods such as peas, whole grain rice, and pistachio nuts should be no strangers to our dinner tables.
*****
Spring is act one in the grand drama that
celebrates the annual passage of Sol through the 12 signs of the zodiac. It is
that season of the year when we learn the merits of initiation (Aries),
consolidation (Taurus), and diversification (Gemini). May you find wellness of
body, mind, and spirit this spring season!
