Leo, the Lion:
Creation and Procreation
by Ted PanDeva Zagar
Note: The author uses Sol and Luna instead
of generic terms like "sun" and "moon" when referring to the
two most important spheres in our solar system. Folk remedies, herbs, foods,
micronutrients, and other substances and therapies are included as information
and not as replacements for the diagnoses, advice, and treatments provided by
competent wellness professionals.
In keeping with the natural flow of change, maternal Cancer is followed by child-ruling Leo (July 23-August 22). The maternal and domestic focus of the Crab yields to the creative, inner child of Leo.
Affectionate and generous, the Lion exalts in all manner of play and performance.
Governed by Sol, our star which serves as the primary source of life for billions of miles around, the sign of the Lion is associated with both creative and procreative applications of light energy.
Leo not only rules our sons and daughters, but it also holds court over handicrafts and hobbies, the dramatic and performing arts (playwright George Bernard Shaw was born on July 26, 1856), recreation and sport, and the warmth of affection and romance. Leo also governs our animal companions, whom many consider to be dependent yet lovable members of their families, not unlike our children.
Leo seems almost destined by the stars to carry banner headlines relating to children. Louise Joy Brown, the first test-tube baby, entered the world in
Lancashire, England, on July 25, 1978. Beatrix Potter (b. July 28, 1866) created Peter Rabbit and the other lovable characters who populate the children's books which she both authored and illustrated. The Little Prince, a perennial favorite of readers young and old, was penned by Antoine de
Saint-Exupéry (b. July 31, 1900).
The solar energy pulsing rhythmically from our star is transformed by plants into a variety of foods. By eating the flesh of vegetarian animals, even carnivores become secondhand consumers of transformed sunlight. Aware of the end result of photosynthesis, the vegetarian prophet Isaiah remarked that "all flesh is grass" (Isaiah 40:6). Indeed, going back a step, one might conclude that all life is light.
Leo governs the heart, that organ which mimics its ruling sphere by pumping a stream of life-giving gases and nutrients to every cell in the body. Leo also rules the circulatory system, spine, upper back, and spleen. Mohammed Reza
Pahlavi, the deposed Shah of Iran, died of cancer of the spleen on July 27, 1980. Another regal Leo, Ethiopia's emperor Haile Selassie (b. July 23, 1892), was known as the Lion of Judah to his
people.
Children of the Lion might acquaint themselves with the benefits of hawthorn berry herbal tea (strengthens the heart muscles), raisins (reduces palpitations), and astragalus (benefits the spleen). Had Elvis Presley and Deadhead Jerry Garcia opened their ears to sound nutritional advice as well as to the sounds of their respective muses, they might have avoided a premature death caused by heart failure during Leo.
May you find peace and health during the bright months!
