Spring Forward!
by
Donna Kimmelman, M.S.
This is the time of year, the Spring, which represents
rebirth and regeneration. It's the time of year when we shed the parts of ourselves that
are no longer working for us and move forward into the world of infinite possibilities. We
can reach and achieve anything that we want. The only one that stops us is ourselves. The
only one imposing limitations on us are ourselves. This is the time of year to look within and
decide what parts of ourselves we want to enhance
and what parts we want to shed.

The human being is a microcosm of the universe. Our entire makeup represents the entire
makeup of the universe. Every cell in our body is a representation of the universe. The
universe is infinite and so are we. There are no endings, there are just new beginnings.
Therefore, this is the time of year to look within and decide what parts of ourselves we
want to enhance and what parts we want to shed.
The Development Phase
Each season represents a phase in our development for the year. In the spring, we
decide what seeds we want to plant and what direction we are going in for the year. It is
the time of activity, creativity and rebirth. In the summer, we nurture those seeds and
they blossom into beautiful flowers, plants and trees. In the fall, we harvest and reap
what we have sown. Then, in the winter, we go into our caves, go within do some
introspection, reflect on the year, and decide how we want to move forward in our lives.
Come spring, we do it all again; rebirth, regeneration and reaching for the new.
We can all reach for the stars. There are no limitations. Knowing this, what stops us?
What stops us from reaching for the stars? What are we thinking? What are we feeling? What
old tapes are we replacing? What messages are we incorporating as truth from our
childhood, from our religious leaders, from our many teachers in this journey through
life? What limits us right now? Take a look at that. Go within. See if you can shed these
old tapes and limitations. Evaluate what it is that's stopping you from achieving what you
really want in life.
There Is A Way
A good way to do this is through meditation. You can ask your "master" within
certain questions. For example, "What thinking patterns do I need to change in order
to achieve my goals and seek true happiness"? For many of us, various labels will
emerge. Some of these labels may include, "I'm not good enough" "I need
more education" "I don't have the time" "I need to stay home with my
children", or "I need to spend more time with my spouse". The key is to
determine how much of what we say to ourselves is the truth and how much is a means of
sabotaging our ability to achieve what we really want in life.
Usually, what stops us is fear; mainly the fear of change. It is safer and more
comfortable to remain in the status quo. We are familiar with that. The present might not
be very satisfying, but it's comfortable. Compare it to wearing an old pair of shoes.
Moving forward is synonymous with buying a new pair of shoes. They are prettier, more
fashionable and reflective of our new identity. However, they are still stiff. We don't
quite feel comfortable in these new shoes and that is exactly what stops us from moving
forward into the unknown.
Moving forward means taking risks. Change for most people creates anxiety because
change is moving into the unknown and the unfamiliar. Most people stay where they are to
avoid the uncomfortable feelings, such as fear and anxiety, that change and growth
creates. There is no blueprint for change. There are no guarantees. Change means taking a
risk.
The rewards for taking those risks are great. When you walk through this period of
discomfort, you are going to receive something beautiful. You are going to get something
better than you have right now. You are going to become the summer. You are going to be in
full bloom, like a beautiful flower. In the fall, you are going to be able to harvest what
you have sown. You will then be able to receive all the beautiful gifts from your new
achievements and growth.
Take that risk. Move forward. It will be alright. You will do fine. It's like jumping
off the cliff. You will sprout your wings and fly. Everything will be beautiful. Take that
risk. Move forward. Reach for your infinite possibilities. Do it now!
