Underwater Icicle: The Finger of Death

Brinicle in Antartica, aka The Finger of DeathThese amazing underwater icicles, or brinicles (combination of the word brine and icicle), are known as the "finger of death". That is a good name for them. Not only does it look like a finger pointing down to the sea bed, but it creates destruction as it hits the ocean floor.

Watch this awesome video footage which was done with time-lapse photography. It shows the formation of the brinicle and its descent to the ocean floor in Antartica... and the unfortunate death of all the little starfish. Sad, yet mind-boggling at the same time when one sees the power of Nature at work.
