The Bridge From Servitude to “What Was” to Service to “What Will Be"

You may be in very churning times and situations in your experience. You may simply desire something more out of life—out of your self? Forces are flowing together and breaking apart “your” world as you have come to know it. But all the stress and strain you are currently experiencing is strengthening you for the changes that must come.

This isn’t a time for facades, pretentious talk, and ego-mania. Such behavior will reveal the confusion and insecurity that keeps you in servitude. In this moment, you may discover your servitude is to what you have always done—or shall I say the beliefs, patterns, behaviors, and mannerisms you have engaged with.

Have you searched out the quick fix? Do you desire a methodology, technique, affirmation, or healing that would rapidly change things? Have you been running after a teacher, guru, or someone who is seemingly above others? Is this how you have been bypassing your life? Yes, bypassing.

To a certain degree, all of these things are a means of distraction. It may feel like it is about you, but it has just enough entertainment that your mind will easily create another point of focus. We are deceptively cunning when it comes to escapism. If you are trying to find a means of escape from where you are, then you are not experiencing what you are in, which only keeps it locked in place.

Seeking the Holy Grail

So you ask, “But, if I do not follow someone who knows what I do not, how will I grow?”

You believe, “I am wounded and broken. They are in their purpose and power. They know something I do not. They have something I do not.”

You think, “Let me say these affirmations, light this candle, burn this incense. Let me set the sacred space, put up an altar, figure out the exact music to play, and sit in the position that appears correct. Let me remember to breathe the way this one told me to, focus on the place that one said was important, and chant the mantra that those people did.”

You surmise, “If I wear white, place crystals on my body, smudge myself, and throw salt in the corners, grace may fall upon me.”

And then you say, “I do not know how to do this. Let me attend another workshop, gain another certification, learn another technique, read another 10 books, listen to some more inspirational talks, and find some positive images to post on Facebook.” All the while, you feel exhausted and no more enlightened than before, especially when the next boulder hits.

What Is Your Intention?

I say all of this not to condemn any of these things or to say these teachers have nothing to offer. I am certainly not telling you that these things are a waste or wrong. There will be things you can gain or learn. I am pointing out that your intention may be the problem.

All of the statements above are descriptions of being in servitude, an illustration of being in servitude to ritual and to the teacher that taught it. You have made it into dogma. These encompass doing something for an end result, not for the sake of “being experience.” This is no different than robotically and numbly playing follow-the-leader.

The Bridge From Servitude to “What Was” to Service to “What Will Be"Can you stop long enough to figure out what feels right to you, what may be sacred to you? It does not have to look like what everyone else does; it likely will not. In fact, what is unique to you is what will work for you.

When you engage in this way, your journey becomes about the experience of you in the moment, not a rush to the finish line or an attempt to acquire something that is missing or lacking. Repetitive doing is going to result in servitude if you are trying to gain an outcome with the sole intention of getting out of where you currently are.

You will always be led to what you need. You will always find yourself in front of the one that has a piece of your puzzle, but it does not mean you must stay there. When the moment arises where you feel complete, move on. Do not let the ego, or society’s unconscious bullying, demand you follow through something if you authentically feel it is time to stop.

Recognizing Your Own Power

Do not go out to follow a teacher or speaker because you think they have the answers to solve your problems. They have appeared before you to give you one thing—not a lesson, not a teaching, not a method or a ritual; they are here to give you a glimpse of your power. Do not project that power onto someone else; it belongs to you.

What happens to you in your life does not stop you; you stop you. When you do, you are in servitude to what has happened. You are in servitude to the challenge and the chaos. Instead, be in service to what can happen through you. Teach yourself what you need to learn by talking about, creating, and living it.

Are you in your heart or in your head? If you are following steps, you are in your head. If you are wondering why or wandering, you are not present. Lose yourself to the moment and immerse yourself fully into the experience of it—mind, body, spirit, heart, and soul. Let it be full sensory—taste, touch, smell, sight, sound—intuitive and with lightness. The same is true for anything, from lighting a candle and playing music, to getting dressed and having a night on the town.

Everything Is Spiritual

Everything is spiritual. Taking out the garbage, washing the dishes, changing a diaper, mowing the grass...even the mundane is steeped in the spiritual.

The fullness of spirit is present when you are engaged to it, married to it, in union with it. All is spiritual, everything from home, family, and practice, to jobs, recreation, and dysfunction, but only when your Spirit is in it.

Even a post on social media should represent the full-bodied expression of you, for no one else but you. It should not matter if anyone else reads it, comments on it, agrees with it, or believes it to be valuable. It is not about how many things you can post. Nor is it about having something to do because you are bored. Make sure you are fully present with it, and then it truly serves. When you are that intimately engaged in every experience, servitude cannot exist because you are in complete service to yourself. And if everything that exists is ultimately YOU in disguise, all will be served.

The Universe Speaks to You Constantly

The Universe has been having a conversation with you all along. You may have paid attention; you may have not. Nonetheless, the conversation has been constant. Many mirrors have been placed in front of you to enhance your experience of you. In fact, all that you see in the outside world is you, every piece and part a symbol of you created to play with you. There is no one here but YOU.

Every person, experience, and circumstance is a reflection of you. It may not be a reflection you are aware of. That is why it appears. These parts of you are to be brought to awareness. There are no accidents, coincidences, or random happenings. Everything is in sync with who you are internally, in that moment. All of your experiences and the people with whom you engage are you in a different form to bring back parts unto yourself. They appear different than you, but what if it is all you? Everything. There is no one in the room but YOU.

Living in Celebration and Aliveness

What if you lived your life in complete celebration and aliveness of every moment? What if you allowed every choice to be based on how it served you so that it could flow out as expanded service from your nourished full heart and being? What if you could view all of your creations—children, dreams, relationships, careers, interactions—as whole and Holy, knowing they possess the same power and presence to be, do, and have anything they desire, if willing to step into the light of their own magnificence? They are further pieces and parts of you, after all.

What if each day were a new day with nothing carried forward from the past, and nothing aimed into the future, so that there were no binding ropes in either direction? What if you lived as close to each moment as each inhale and exhale, only acting upon what the breath of that moment asked for?

What if there were no yesterdays or tomorrows, only the experience of this moment— Right Now. Yes, make this moment “right” now. Can you be in service to what this second is asking for you—not of you, but for you? Are you having a moment? Or, are you letting it pass you by? This is the moment! This is your moment! Today is Moment-Us!
