Will America Move Closer Towards The Darkside?

“The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing,” - Unknown

Clearly less than 10% of the population has already moved to the darkside.  And another 20-25% quietly support them and 20-25% openly oppose them. That leaves roughly 30-50% who don't participate in the voting process at all depending on whether presidential or not. .

America has never been a pure democracy but is a representative democratic republic. And simply that representation has been utterly corrupted, mostly by republican-types, with obscene amounts of money that is nothing more than simple bribery. It is lawless, it is corruption, and it is pure evil.

America is divided and at the brink of its democracy imploding. While today's uptake seems to be about Trump it really isn't. It's about The Republican party's lack of courage and failure to support America and the democratic principles upon which it is founded.

Here on the The Uptake in the coming weeks we will make the case that the current republican party needs to be replaced by a true conservative party that has the best interests of the American people in mind. ~ Robert Jennings

Trump’s frightening rally in Ohio shows the media still doesn’t get it

About The Author
Jennifer Rubin - Columnist Washington Post

Donald Trump has gone full QAnon. As he spoke during a rally for Ohio Republican candidates on Saturday, a soundtrack associated with the conspiracy theory played. That elicited one-armed salutes — another QAnon symbol — from many attendees.

The display bore an uncanny resemblance to the infamous Nazi salute. The delusional incitement and zombie-like response should put to rest the notion that President Biden (or anyone) should be “reaching out” to these people. They are unreachable, and pretending otherwise misleads voters.

This piece by Nicole Hemmer certainly lays out the case in the near-modern era since 1990. But the modern era's roots certainly extend to at least the late 19th century and the war on labor and opposition to the 3-time presidential democratic candidacy of the true populist, William Jennings Bryan

One could also make a case for the 1876 election when second place finisher Rutherford B. Hayes was anointed president in a backroom deal that ended reconstruction and withdrawal of federal troops from the south. Thus ushered in the era of neofeudalism, Jim Crow and voter suppression in the South that still exists in similar degrees and attitudes to this day.  ~ Robert Jennings

The Republican Party Was Trumpy Long Before Trump

About The Author
Nicole Hemmer is an associate professor of history and director of the Rogers Center for the American Presidency at Vanderbilt University. She is the author of Partisans: The Conservative Revolutionaries Who Remade American Politics in the 1990s.

In February 1992, a small, graying man in a slightly wrinkled suit eased himself into a seat across from the television host Larry King. Larry King Live was the hottest show on cable news—mostly because it was the top-rated show on CNN, the only cable-news channel widely available in the U.S. at the time. And so it was there that a reedy-voiced Texan announced that he would run for president if and only if his supporters got him on the ballot in all 50 states.

Thus began the improbable rise of Ross Perot, the billionaire presidential candidate who threw the 1992 presidential campaign into disarray, first by entering as an independent, then by dropping out just a few months before the election, and finally by jumping back in with only a month left to go. Despite his erratic campaign, he captured nearly 20 percent of the vote: the best showing for a third-party presidential candidate in 80 years.

How an Unqualified Trump Judge Got on the Bench With the Dark Money That Bought the Supreme Court Which Could Also Buy the Next Election

Background Briefing's Ian Masters interviews Justin Elliott, a reporter with ProPublica where he covers business and economics as well as money and influence in politics. Elliott has produced stories for The New York Times and National Public Radio, and his reporting with NPR on the Red Cross’ troubled post-earthquake reconstruction efforts in Haiti won a 2015 Investigative Reporters and Editors award. We discuss his latest article at ProPublica, “How a Billionaire’s “Attack Philanthropy” Secretly Funded Climate Denialism and Right-Wing Causes” and how the man behind the dark money that bought the right-wing majority on the Supreme Court, now has $1.6 billion from one donor to fund far-right Republican causes in the November election.

And last, Senator Al Franken with Nobel Prize winning  economist Paul Krugman discuss the state of the US economy. This is a must to understanding the complexities of what's happening. Republicans are trying to make the case that President Biden is responsible for inflation in the US. Yet inflation is worse in Europe and some other countries. If it was so, that would make Biden responsible for world wide inflation and nearly all powerful. Not a chance! So that would make Republicans,,,,ignorant...or ....worse? ~ Robert Jennings
