THE FEBRUARY PARADE: With Mercury entering Aquarius at 9:10 p.m. PST on February 5, we begin a parade of planets into Aquarius — first Mercury, then Mars (February 12), and then Venus (February 16). While this is not a terribly rare occurrence, since the three personal planets do sometimes travel closely together, it carries more significance now; as each planet enters the eleventh sign, it will immediately conjoin Pluto in Aquarius, for the first time in more than 200 years.

Pluto, although "demoted" to dwarf planet status by astronomers a few years ago, has never been similarly downgraded by astrologers. Its influence, in contrast to its size, is among the most powerful of all the planets. It functions as a catalyst for major change, acts as a psychotherapist in revealing that which has been hidden, serves as an agent of detoxification, and — as god of the Underworld — facilitates a process of death and rebirth (only rarely a literal death).

As Mercury the Messenger and Pluto align on Monday this week, we can expect conversations to be more intense, opinions more entrenched (Aquarius is a fixed sign), and information more revealing than usual. The mind is focused, like a laser, upon that which has been intuited but was not conscious until now. We will also want to watch Pluto's alignments with Mercury, Mars, and Venus this month for clues as to the longer-term intentions of its twenty-year transit of the sign of The Waterbearer.

ELECTRIC NEW MOON: The Sun and Moon align at 2:58 p.m. PST this Friday, February 9, when both luminaries reach 20°40´ Aquarius. A New Moon always encourages us to start anew, but this particular lunation insists that our "new" also be authentic, original, progressive, and self-determined.

These imperatives are due in part because the New Moon is in futuristic Aquarius, but also because it is in tight square aspect to eccentric, sideways-spinning Uranus (at 19°10´ Taurus). To motivate us to embrace the new, this Uranian lunation may bring with it sudden or unexpected changes, unorthodox or rebellious behaviors, and perhaps electrical storms or other natural events. The ultimate intent is to facilitate breakthroughs; however, we may also need to experience breakdowns first, to help us be open to new perspectives and ways of being.

Both Aquarius and Uranus carry highly nervous energy, so a mindfulness or conscious breathing practice may provide good support this week, along with grounding exercises and increasing our intake of electrolytes and fluids. Maintaining a neutral perspective, as in "isn't that interesting," can also be helpful.

Remember, too, that the higher octave expression of Uranus is Higher Consciousness / Divine Mind. While the square aspect is likely to manifest as challenges or surprises, we can be uplifted by the realization that all that occurs is part of our awakening process.

THIS WEEK'S ASPECTS:

Here are my brief interpretations of this week's most important planetary aspects:

Monday
Venus square Chiron, Sun sextile Chiron: Although we may have moments of insecurity or feeling unloved today, there are also opportunities for healing of old wounds, if we take the time for personal care based in understanding and self-acceptance.
Mercury conjunct Pluto: People can be very forthright, opinionated, and directive today. Conversations are intense and revelatory. We may be focused on the pursuit of truth or obsessed with finding the solution to a mystery. Words are especially impactful, whether they are used to hurt or heal. The mind is perceptive, but could be suspicious, controlling, or manipulative.
Mars square Eris: Confrontations are possible in the struggle between authority and individual rights. Some may be especially reactive or impulsive in their actions.

Tuesday
Venus square nodal axis, Sun sextile North Node: Past relationships, either from this lifetime or other incarnations, come forward now to be assessed and their lessons assimilated. Of particular note are relationships that in some way involved codependent behaviors.

Wednesday
Venus trine Uranus: This aspect supports our breaking free from old relationship patterns and paradigms. It encourages us to maintain our independence within a partnership, and increases our ability to allow others the same.
Mars sextile Neptune: We are more willing to act on faith now, without the need for complete certainty to guide our steps.

Thursday
Sun square Uranus: Nervous energy is heightened today, and people may act erratically or impulsively. The atmosphere feels electrical and highly charged. Events that occur today are tied into the New Moon and the new lunar cycle that begins tomorrow.

Friday
New Moon: The Sun and Moon align at 2:58 p.m. PST. Themes for the new lunar cycle include radical change, unorthodox behaviors, progressive attitudes, and technological advancements.

Saturday
Mercury square Jupiter: A conviction that we have all the answers can cause problems today. This can manifest through a need to convince others of the truths and beliefs that we hold dear, or a tendency to resist input from others that could be helpful when making decisions.
Venus semisquare Saturn: This aspect increases objectivity but could manifest as a cynical approach to either relationship or financial matters.

Sunday
Venus square Eris: We may experience frustrations with loved ones and feel the need to rebel against expectations or rules.
Mercury semisquare Neptune: Conversations tend to be circuitous, without finding resolution or clarity.

IF YOUR BIRTHDAY IS THIS WEEK: The need to be independent, authentic, and free of "shoulds" is heightened for you this coming year. A deep restlessness — or even rebelliousness — in some area of your life has been with you throughout 2023 and continues to be strong through at least the next six months. It is time to recreate your self-concept and to engage in new activities. However, this may not be a good time to commit to a long-term enterprise; it is more appropriate to experiment with different options, to see what is the best fit for the new version of yourself that is being birthed now. Be sure to give yourself the opportunity to try on new hats — it may surprise you which ones feel most "right" when you look at yourself in the mirror.  (Solar Return Sun square Uranus)
