InnerSelf's Daily Inspiration

January 19-20-21, 2024

The focus for today (and the weekend) is:

I choose to meditate, exercise, and get to bed early.

Today's inspiration was written by Colin McCormick:

Whether you’re driving a car with children yelling in the backseat or trying to read a book in a coffee shop while someone talks loudly on their phone, attention is essential for navigating and interacting with the world. Executive functioning is the component that kicks in when you are trying to focus in a distracting setting, or when you are dealing with an impulse, like resisting the urge to have another potato chip.

Executive functioning is also involved in monitoring for distracting thoughts, like getting caught up in a daydream. It is affected by a number of different disorders, including attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and depression.

New research highlights the importance of daily meditation, getting consistent exercise and maintaining healthy sleeping habits to boost the efficiency of your executive functioning. So if you want to improve your productivity and reduce your impulsivity, you may want to consider making these changes in your routine: start meditating, get your heart rate up and get to bed early!

This is Marie T. Russell, co-publisher of InnerSelf.com, wishing you a day of clarity (today and every day)

Comment from Marie:
When we reach the end of a day and wonder where the time went, it might be because it was eaten up by distractions... some pleasant and others maybe not so pleasant. Yet, to attain our goals and keep our mind focused, distractions are, well, distracting. Since studies have shown that meditation, exercise, and plenty of sleep help keep us focused, that could be how to start reclaiming our time and our life.

Our focus for today (and the weekend): I choose to meditate, exercise, and get to bed early.
