InnerSelf Newsletter: May 22nd, 2016

Welcome... Our InnerSelf welcomes your inner self.

This week we take a look at the blessings in our life. And we acknowledge that sometimes they come easily, and at other times have to be worked for.

Having spent a good part of the morning in the garden, I can attest to the truth of the article about 9 Surprising Relationships Between Food and Mood.  The relationship applies to food in its growing stage as well. I find that time spent in the garden is a definite mood-lifter, and of course eating the food that comes from that garden (and the work and love required to make it flourish) are blessings in themselves.

Paulo Coelho shares The Cloud and The Dune: Discovering The Blessings of Love  and Carla van Raay writes about The Magic of Choosing Gratitude Today and Every Day (gratitude being a blessing in itself which brings additional ones). Debra Silverman shares The Good News and The Bad News (yes those are blessings too!) while Nevile Hodgkinson speaks of the benefits and The Importance of Forgiveness.

This week we welcome a new author, who is also a long-time subscriber of InnerSelf, Nancy Bolling. She shares with us her reflections on By Any Other Name: Some Thoughts on the Universe, God, and Meaning.

And of course we have numerous new articles as well on a variety of topics. Scroll below to access them all.

Wishing you enjoyable insightful reading, and of course a wonder-full, joy-full, and loving week.

P.S. The "look" of the newsletter has changed a bit this week. We simplified it to make it easier for people to read it on their phones and tablets. The old format did not resize properly (because it was in frames and tables) and was awkward to read. Let us know if this works better for you (or if it still needs tweaking).

The Cloud and The Dune: Discovering The Blessings of Love

Written by Paulo Coelho.

The Cloud and The Dune: Discovering The Blessings of Love
God knows that we are artists of life. One day He gives us a chisel, another we may receive brushes and a canvas, and still another day He gives us a pen to write. But we will never use a chisel on canvas, or pens on sculptures. Each day has its own miracle.

The Magic of Choosing Gratitude Today and Every Day

Written by Carla van Raay.

The Magic of Choosing Gratitude
Ah, yes! Gratitude is magical. Once you get into the groove of it, you will know why. There is nothing so freeing and so exhilarating as pouring out gratitude, not just for what we can easily see as benefits, or enjoyable things and situations, but for every moment of existence and for whatever happens.

The Good News and The Bad News

Written by Debra Silverman.

The Good News and The Bad News
I am writing about you. You; wonderfully flawed, perfectly nutty, beautiful, broken-hearted, powerful you. Would you like to impact the planet and be a part of a positive change? Would you like to feel more at peace with yourself and be a happier human being?

Do No Evil: The Importance of Forgiveness

Written by Neville Hodgkinson.

Do No Evil: The Importance of Forgiveness
As the Lord’s Prayer indicates, forgiveness plays a part in settling spiritual debts, and in helping to prevent new ones from being established. Forgiveness provides great protection for the self, as well as helping others. It ends vicious cycles of action and reaction.

By Any Other Name: Some Thoughts on the Universe, God, and Meaning

By Any Other Name: Some Thoughts on the Universe, God, and Meaning
I am in awe of my mother’s faith in God. Despite the circumstances that life has inflicted upon her, she has remained committed to her Christian belief. I’m also in awe of the fervent faith that I’ve seen in friends of mine who are Buddhist, Muslim, or even those who choose to not give the divinity a name per se.
